Yep... we can't have a Muv-Luv forum without bringing up "That" scene.

So what are your opinions on it, I'm sure everyone knows what I'm talking about. In the new PC version would you rather have the original PC version untouched or the console version which covers up most the the scene. A good amount of people don't like it, but it is pretty important to the development of the characters. That scene really did work well for me, even though I'm kinda scared to click on random urls in Muv Luv topics now, so I hope new players can get the same experience (we went through it, new players shouldn't be spared from PTSD!)

So...are you talking about chomp or

Spoiler

BETA rape

? I'm tending more towards chomp but I'm not entirely sure...

Thought it was obvious I was talking about chomp, twizzlers isn't in the console edition.

Well, let's hope it'll be untouched and let every new readers enjoy the *insert_your_own_expression* experience we had~XD

(Just in case, I'll just hide my comment with spoiler tag)

Spoiler

After all, well at least for me, that was the defining starting point where alternative's plot starts to kick in for a epic feel trip. Talk about getting mind-blown.

FOR NEW PLAYERS (in case curious of what we are talking about): please don't google on what we're quoting here, you'll know it when you play it.

I'm pretty sure they'll release a patch for the uncensored CHOMP glory, though it should be noted that part of the reason it was censored was because the fans thought it was excessive. I've heard some comments to the effect of "Okay, we get it, that was horrible BUT DO YOU HAVE TO BRING IT UP IN FLASHBACKS ALL THE TIME!??!!"

It might not even need to be patched, atleast the PC version.

"With regard to violent content, Muv-Luv is relatively tame compared to several games available on Steam, so we will likely get the crucial story elements across."

I wouldn't mind an option for it, but it should be defaulted to show the original. It's one of the most memorable moments in the VN and an important experience as a Muv Luv fan.

That means nothing. The sexual content doesn't pass Steam regulations yet will be given as a patch. With CHOMP it will be the same, though it may be possible that it's there from the beginning: Steam is fairly more lenient towards gore than Japan.

Sex and violent content are very different when it comes to regulations. Chomp won't have any problems being in the original game on steam. Erotica will always have to be completely taken out.

Then what is your doubt? If it's censored it will be uncensored with the patch, and if it's not then there's no problem.

It's not something that needs to be patched in, the only restriction might be on the portable versions. Those were unlikely to be patched.

Yeah, there was a topic before about the Vita and Android versions and the most likely result is that they simply get Japan's version translated, and that would mean no gore.

In the PC version I think it would be fine to have it as an option.

While I agree that the first time it's a real shock, after the 2nd replay or so, the image stops being shocking and emotional for being what is it to simply being repulsive for being gore. I mean, I admit I'm very weak to those kind of things, but still after the fifth or so time I stopped being affected by the emotional situation and more frightened for "when that image is going to jump at me again?". So I understand some people at Japan being a little sick of it.

It does lose it's effect when you expect it to happen. I know the first time for me

Spoiler

I was expecting something to happen to her, cause when the mentor gives a pep talk like that, it's a pretty common deathflag, bit I really wasn't expecting it mid pep talk.

Spoiler

It kinda bugs me that a VN that's meant to be emotional and affect the player as much as this one does has to be censored for gore (or the excessive flashbacks of it), especially when the plots about being in the middle of a war against something that doesn't treat humans as living things...but I guess that's just because I'm fine with that kind of scene to begin with or something.

I believe they are necessary for a full experience. Especially the second one. I'll be clear. That scene was not my first "dive" in that kind of stuff. I really really dislike genres such as those in VN's. But to me the second one really connects because you are invested in the characters and if something happens to the character, you feel it and it creates emotional feedback from you. And if that is removed, then what creates that emotional impact?

I apologize in advance if there is some spoil in my comment but for some reason, I can't hide stuff in my comments.

Yea, it definitely needs to be uncensored for the full, horrific impact.

Sorry for necroing, but I have a question.

How is that scene looking in all ages version?
I remember when I read it, it was really fast cuts to this CG, red and black screens, and it really did stroke me hard. But then I saw a letsplay on youtube, and that scene has a much, much longer exposition of that CG. Does it mean I played all ages version? If so, I probably prefer it censored. In 18+ there is overexposure of this image. In 'my version' it's more jump-scary.

Also the

Spoiler

beta rape

scene. I have it in full 'glory' (oh how I hated it). How is it looking in censored version?

Id censor nothing tbh.

Though for me..

The tentcle rape scene was abit too tentcle porn, it was harsh but id change it from that to more.. She got Raped and violated as a plot rather than another h scene with lots of descriptive tentcle porn.

Gore warning at the start of the game with an option to enable/disable the content. Most people might be okay with gore, but some might have experienced real life gore that they dont want to relive again in any way.

Wait, besides sex scenes, are they planning to censor Gore as well?  I could live with them removing sex for Steam release, but the GORE?

@MkilbridePlease don't assume things. We're working on getting  you the best options possible

We understand that this is a pivotal scene and should be presented as is if at all possible.

@David That is a very good point. Will keep that in mind.

Twizzlers though is questionable territory.

Since the issue of lawsuits was brought up, I just want to point out that since this is the US, it's highly likely for someone to file a lawsuit in response to CHOMP if no prior warning was given.

For very controversial scenes that leave you puzzled with how to handle, I recommend the "No Russian" approach from Modern Warfare 2. There was a part of the game where you pretended to be a terrorist and had to gun down innocent civilians in an airport. Prior to the mission, the game gave you a very clear warning and asked if you wanted to skip that part. If you skipped the part you were given a in-game summary of the events from the characters themselves.

Not to say it didn't still cause a controversy, but the fact that a warning was given helped the developers.

Or hell, you could just put the disclaimer south park puts at the beginning and that would take care of all controversial material.

Because of the Unlimited unlocking situation, we gave them a clear list of what should be in Muv-Luv Alternative this time to make sure we're all in the same page.

The list includes not touching the gore cg and Asu e No Houkou being the one that plays upon game start

Spoiler

(and 0-gravity appearing after meeting 00-unit, or at least sitting in the movie theater option).

Furthermore, any CGs that are zoomed in (or "cropped") should be at least scrollable in the gallery for full viewing.

Good news, but shouldn't this be in the Muv-Luv Updates thread?
